Allies of the United States have convened to discuss the restoration of maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Bloomberg sources, that more than 40 US allies met on Thursday to deliberate on a strategic plan for the Strait of Hormuz without the direct participation of Washington.

The meeting, initiated by the United Kingdom, brought together representatives from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and Canada. The discussions focused on potential economic measures and sanctions against Tehran should it refuse to engage in diplomatic efforts to ensure the openness of the vital maritime corridor, which is essential for global energy supplies. Participants also explored the possibility of involving the United Nations in diplomatic initiatives to resolve regional tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically important choke points, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes daily. Given its significance to global energy markets, any disruption in the strait can lead to significant volatility in international oil prices. This multilateral initiative underscores growing international concern over maritime stability in the Persian Gulf and the collective effort to secure energy transit routes against geopolitical risks.
