Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall have been recorded across various regions of Azerbaijan, with snow falling in the high-altitude Shahdag area, according to the latest official weather update.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the National Hydrometeorological Service released these findings as of 11:00 AM on May 6. Since the early morning hours, rainy conditions have also been observed in Baku and across the Absheron Peninsula.

According to the service, the highest levels of precipitation were recorded in Lerik at 8 mm and Zagatala at 6 mm. Other regions, including Gakh, Tovuz, Sadarak, Gadabay, Aghstafa, and Ceyranchol, saw between 3 and 4 mm. Minor precipitation of up to 1 mm was reported in several other areas, including Shusha, Khankendi, Kalbajar, Lachin, Qubadli, and Fuzuli. Foggy conditions have also limited visibility to 500 meters in locations such as Neft Dashlari, Balakan, Dashkasan, and Shamakhi.

The National Hydrometeorological Service of Azerbaijan is the primary state body responsible for monitoring atmospheric processes and providing early warnings for hazardous weather events. Such fluctuations in spring weather are characteristic of Azerbaijan’s diverse climate zones, which range from semi-desert to highland tundra. The maximum temperature was recorded at 19°C in Baku, while reaching up to 27°C in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and 23°C in the lowlands.
