A memorandum on the establishment of sister city relations between Shusha, Azerbaijan, and Trabzon, Turkey, was signed within the framework of the 13th session of the United Nations (UN) World Urban Forum (WUF13).
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the document was signed by Aydin Karimov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha district, and Ahmet Metin Genc, the Mayor of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality. The agreement aims to foster bilateral ties in urban development, cultural exchange, and economic cooperation between the two historic cities.
Shusha, often referred to as the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, has now expanded its international network to include 10 sister cities worldwide. This partnership with Trabzon reflects the deep-rooted fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, emphasizing a shared commitment to regional stability and heritage preservation. The World Urban Forum, where the signing took place, is a premier global conference on sustainable urbanization established by the United Nations to examine the most pressing issues facing the world today in the area of human settlements.
