The epidemiological situation regarding anthrax in the Samukh district of Azerbaijan remains stable, with no new cases of infection recorded and no evidence of the disease spreading among the general population, the Ministry of Health reported.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Health issued a statement clarifying the status of the outbreak. Following the detection of an anthrax case in the village of Aliusaghi, relevant state agencies immediately implemented necessary epidemiological and preventive measures.
During the subsequent investigation, individuals who had contact with the source of infection were identified, placed under medical observation, and subjected to necessary laboratory testing. Furthermore, comprehensive epidemiological and epizootiological studies were conducted at the farm where the incident occurred, with appropriate samples collected for analysis.
Based on the results of ongoing monitoring and laboratory tests, no new cases of infection have been recorded since August 15. The individuals diagnosed with the disease are currently receiving appropriate treatment at a medical facility, while those who had contact with the patients remain under medical supervision. No further infections have been detected among these contacts.
The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the epidemiological situation closely and is coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure all preventive and anti-epidemic measures are maintained.
Anthrax is a zoonotic disease primarily transmitted to humans through contact with infected or deceased animals, as well as their contaminated tissues and products. Human-to-human transmission of the disease is extremely rare.
