Officers of the Water Transport Police Department have discovered an unexploded munition in the Salyan district of Azerbaijan.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that employees of the Absheron Line Police Station, while conducting service in the Khidirli village area of the Salyan district, found an unexploded shell on the banks of the Shirvan water canal.
Following the discovery, police personnel conducted a thorough inspection of the surrounding perimeter. No additional dangerous objects or devices were identified during the search. The shell was safely removed from the area under strict security protocols and handed over to the relevant authorities for disposal. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The discovery of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in various regions of Azerbaijan remains a focus for local law enforcement and specialized agencies. Such findings are often remnants of historical military activities or previous conflicts. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Azerbaijan State Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) regularly conduct operations to neutralize such threats to ensure the safety of civilians and the integrity of the country's infrastructure, particularly near vital water resources like the Shirvan canal.
