Speaker of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) Sahiba Gafarova is on a working visit to Istanbul, Türkiye, to participate in high-level international forums, including the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 5th Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

The Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) reported that the visit aims to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation and address global challenges within these multilateral platforms, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.

At the Istanbul Ataturk International Airport, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova was welcomed by Rashad Mammadov, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Türkiye, Narmina Mustafayeva, Azerbaijan's Consul General in Istanbul, and other official representatives. During the visit, the Speaker is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with the heads of parliamentary delegations attending the events to discuss regional security and legislative cooperation.

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network was established in 2021 in Madrid at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, who chaired the NAM from 2019 to 2024. This initiative reflects Azerbaijan's commitment to promoting the "Bandung Principles" and fostering solidarity among developing nations. The Inter-Parliamentary Union, as the global organization of national parliaments, serves as a vital forum for Azerbaijan to engage in parliamentary diplomacy and advocate for its national interests on the international stage.
