The European Union (EU) is effectively in a state of war with Russia, according to a high-ranking official within the bloc's diplomatic service. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Belen Martinez Carbonell, Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service, made the statement regarding the current geopolitical climate.
"The fact is that we are already at war with Russia," Carbonell emphasized during her remarks. However, the official clarified that the European Union is not currently moving toward a conventional war that would require the mobilization of European citizens or their direct participation in combat on the front lines.
In response to such rhetoric, Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously dismissed claims that Moscow intends to attack Europe as "nonsense." The Russian leader stressed that Western politicians have created the current situation through their own actions and continue to escalate tensions by persistently discussing preparations for a military conflict with Russia. Relations between the West and Russia have remained at historic lows since the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, leading to unprecedented sanctions and a significant shift in European security policy.
