A Russian aircraft carrying humanitarian aid destined for Iran has landed at the Lankaran International Airport in southern Azerbaijan. Operative Information Center-OMM, citing AZERTAC, reports that the Il-76 aircraft belonging to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation arrived with a significant cargo of medical supplies.
The humanitarian shipment, weighing more than 13 tons, consists primarily of essential medicines and medical equipment. Following the landing in Lankaran, the cargo was loaded onto vehicles to be transported to the "Astara" state border checkpoint for final delivery into the Islamic Republic of Iran. This logistics operation highlights Azerbaijan's strategic role as a regional transit hub for international humanitarian efforts.
The delivery follows a telephone conversation on March 11 between the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. During the call, Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for the prompt assistance provided in the evacuation of Russian citizens from Iran, as well as for creating the necessary conditions for the transit of Russian humanitarian aid through the territory of Azerbaijan. Such cooperation underscores the strengthening bilateral relations between Baku and Moscow, particularly in the fields of logistics, regional security, and emergency response.
