US special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are currently in Doha, the capital of Qatar, but will not hold direct meetings with Iranian representatives, according to official statements.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Al Jazeera, reports that Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari clarified the nature of the visit. According to Al-Ansari, the American delegation is in Doha to engage with Qatari mediators to discuss the current status and trajectory of ongoing diplomatic processes.
Furthermore, the Qatari Foreign Ministry representative addressed the status of financial assets, confirming that $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds have not yet been transferred to Tehran.
Qatar has long served as a critical diplomatic intermediary between the United States and Iran, often facilitating back-channel communications and hosting high-level delegations to manage regional tensions. The presence of US envoys in the Gulf state underscores the ongoing, albeit complex, efforts to maintain diplomatic dialogue amidst broader geopolitical challenges in the Middle East.
