The Western Azerbaijan Community has strongly condemned Armenia’s sharp reaction to a recent visit by members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan to Garabagh and Eastern Zangazur, describing it as an open sign of disrespect for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the community made the statement.
It said that, at a time when Azerbaijan and Armenia were moving closer toward peace, such destructive steps dealt a blow to the peace process, undermined mutual trust and played into the hands of revanchist forces:
“The Western Azerbaijan Community considers Armenia’s approach an attempt to interfere in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs and a step aimed at reigniting irredentism. It also demonstrates that Armenia is not sincere in the peace and normalization process.
Instead of making unfounded claims regarding Azerbaijan’s sovereign territories and historical issues, Armenian society should first focus on ending the denial, distortion and destruction of the rich cultural and historical heritage created by the Azerbaijani people in the territory of Armenia. This would be a practical step serving the establishment of lasting peace between the two countries and their societies.”
