Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has issued a sharp response to recent statements made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky concerning Belarus. Moscow has characterized these remarks as an aggressive threat and a direct interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the comments were made during a recent press briefing held by the Kremlin spokesperson. Peskov emphasized that the rhetoric coming from Kyiv is viewed by the Russian leadership as unacceptable.

It was further announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko are scheduled to hold a high-level meeting in the near future. During these discussions, the two heads of state are expected to address the current regional tensions and broader security concerns affecting the Union State.

Regarding the statements from the Ukrainian side, Peskov stated: “Of course, the threats are completely, absolutely aggressive... it is an interference in the internal affairs of another country. And it is an encroachment on the sovereignty of another country. Undoubtedly, the Belarusian leadership, and Belarus itself, is capable of ensuring its own sovereignty.”

The relationship between Russia and Belarus is formalized through the Union State agreement, a supranational entity established in the late 1990s aimed at deepening integration between the two nations. This framework often serves as the primary platform for coordinating security and defense policies, particularly in response to external geopolitical pressures.
