Illegal fisher detained in Caspian Sea

During a recent operation conducted by the Water Transport Police, an individual engaged in illegal fishing activities in the Caspian Sea has been detained.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), officers from the Absheron Line Police Station identified and apprehended 30-year-old E. Cherkazov near the Zira settlement in the Khazar district. During the inspection, authorities seized synthetic nets prohibited for use in fishing, along with 95 fish of various species weighing a total of 26 kilograms. Investigations revealed that the individual caused 1,067 manats in environmental damage.

The incident is currently under investigation by law enforcement agencies.

Illegal fishing, particularly the use of synthetic nets, poses a significant threat to the biodiversity of the Caspian Sea. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan frequently conduct joint operations to combat poaching and protect the country's marine resources, enforcing strict regulations to preserve aquatic life and ensure sustainable fishing practices in the region.
