Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has stated that informal tea ceremonies between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin serve as a vital platform for high-level discussions.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Peskov shared these details during a press briefing with journalists, emphasizing the strategic importance of these private settings.
The spokesperson noted that while Xi Jinping engages in similar meetings with other world leaders, this specific format has become an integral part of the summits between the Russian and Chinese heads of state. "There is nothing exclusive about it in a general sense, but it is a mandatory attribute of the meetings between Putin and Xi Jinping. They use this environment to discuss the most sensitive issues," Peskov said.
The Press Secretary further noted that such communication formats are applied to other global figures as well. "There was also such a meeting with US President Donald Trump. This happens with other leaders too," he added, highlighting the role of informal diplomacy in international relations.
Informal diplomatic settings, often referred to as "fireside chats" or "tea diplomacy," are frequently used by world powers to build personal rapport and address complex geopolitical matters outside the constraints of official protocol. These meetings allow for a more candid exchange of views on regional security, economic cooperation, and global stability, complementing formal bilateral negotiations.
