For 30 years, no Azerbaijani citizen could morally reconcile with the status of an internally displaced person (IDP). Every individual harbored a deep desire to return to their ancestral lands and shed this status as quickly as possible.

According to "Operative Information Center-OMM", citing AZERTAC, this statement was made by Member of Parliament Bahruz Maharramov during a joint session of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) committees on Labor and Social Policy, Human Rights, and Legal Policy and State Building.

"As a result of the victory achieved under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, our citizens are now returning to their ancestral lands. This return is being realized very successfully. The return of more than 80,000 people in safe and dignified conditions is, in itself, a significant historical event," the MP stated.

The "Great Return" program is a strategic initiative launched by the government of Azerbaijan to facilitate the voluntary, safe, and dignified repatriation of former IDPs to the liberated territories of Garabagh and East Zangezur. Following the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020, which ended the decades-long occupation, the state has prioritized large-scale reconstruction and infrastructure projects to restore these regions, enabling citizens to resettle in their homes.
