Significant traffic congestion has been reported on 14 major roads and avenues in Baku, causing delays for commuters across the capital of Azerbaijan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Intellectual Transport Management Center (ITMC) has released a detailed list of the affected areas. Currently, heavy traffic is observed on the Baku-Sumgait highway toward the "20 January" metro station, Heydar Aliyev Avenue (both main and side roads) toward the city center, and Tbilisi Avenue in both directions. Other affected routes include Yusif Safarov, Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Koroglu Rahimov, and Ali Mustafayev streets, as well as the Airport highway and Binagadi highway.
Traffic congestion in Baku often intensifies during peak hours as a result of the high volume of vehicles entering the city center from surrounding residential areas and suburban settlements. The Intellectual Transport Management Center, which operates under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, utilizes a comprehensive network of surveillance cameras and sensors to monitor traffic flow in real-time. These systems are designed to optimize signal timings and provide data to help manage the increasing density of transport in the capital.
