Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has formally accepted the resignation of the country's Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the President has instructed the outgoing government to continue performing its duties until a new Cabinet is formed.

It was reported that the President accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė's cabinet, ensuring continuity of governance during the transition period.

Under the Lithuanian Constitution, the President must submit a candidate for prime minister to the Seimas (parliament) within 15 days. The ruling coalition has nominated Mindaugas Sinkevicius, leader of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, for the position. Should the Seimas approve the presidential nomination, the prime minister-designate will then have 15 days to present their proposed cabinet and government program to the parliament for a vote of confidence.

This transition follows standard constitutional procedures in Lithuania, a Baltic nation and member of the European Union and NATO, which relies on parliamentary consensus to form executive leadership. The process highlights the nation's commitment to democratic governance and institutional stability during political transitions.
