The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, has invited President Ilham Aliyev to pay an official visit to Latvia to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the invitation was extended by President Edgars Rinkēvičs during a joint press statement with President Ilham Aliyev in Baku. "As you mentioned, we have met many times. I primarily visited Baku as the foreign minister, and then we held meetings in Davos last year. Now, I express great pleasure in visiting your country on an official visit. Let me say that we look forward to welcoming you to Riga. We have just calculated that almost 10 years have passed since your last visit. There were the COVID years and some other issues, but such exchanges are always beneficial for both countries. Such exchanges and the friendship between us create conditions for political, economic, and cultural cooperation," the Latvian President stated.

President Edgars Rinkēvičs also noted that his first visit to Azerbaijan dates back to 2002, marking this as his sixth or seventh trip to the country. "I am always amazed when I see how your country, especially your capital, has developed. We know that you personally pay attention to this matter and are involved in this process," he added, praising the urban transformation of Baku.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia were established in 1994, and the two nations share a strategic partnership characterized by high-level political dialogue. Latvia has consistently supported Azerbaijan's strengthening ties with European Union institutions. Beyond political cooperation, both countries focus on expanding economic trade, particularly in the fields of transport, logistics, and education, leveraging their strategic positions in the Baltic and South Caucasus regions respectively.
