As a country that has suffered from urbicide, culturicide, and ecocide, Azerbaijan is currently rebuilding nine cities and hundreds of villages from scratch in Garabagh and East Zangezur. This was stated in a post shared on the official X account of President Ilham Aliyev.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state highlighted the successful outcomes of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13). "The rich and comprehensive discussions held within the framework of WUF13 resulted in two important final documents - the Chair's Summary and the Baku Call to Action. As a country that has suffered from urbicide, culturicide, and ecocide, Azerbaijan is currently rebuilding nine cities and hundreds of villages from scratch in Garabagh and East Zangezur. Therefore, we are proud of the strong recognition by the international community of Azerbaijan's post-conflict reconstruction efforts. These efforts have been noted as a valuable model for other post-conflict contexts worldwide," the post of the head of state said.
The reconstruction of the liberated territories remains a top priority for Azerbaijan. Following the liberation of its lands, the Azerbaijani government launched extensive infrastructure projects, including the construction of international airports, highways, and modern residential areas, transforming the region into a green energy zone and establishing a sustainable model for global post-conflict recovery.
