President Ilham Aliyev receives US Senator Steve Daines

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Senator Steve Daines, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation, on July 7.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the successful development of bilateral relations based on cooperation and mutual trust following the election of Donald Trump as U.S. President for a second term. The head of state noted that these ties have risen to the level of a strategic partnership, which is of great importance for both countries and the region as a whole.

The President recalled with satisfaction the visit of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to Azerbaijan, highlighting the significance of the "Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America" signed during that visit for the expansion of bilateral relations.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that his personal relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump is at a high level, stressing the special role the U.S. leader has played in advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The head of state thanked Senator Daines for his efforts in developing Azerbaijan-U.S. relations, noting that historic events have occurred since the Senator's last visit to the country.

In turn, Senator Steve Daines stated that relations between the two countries have developed successfully in recent times, emphasizing that the visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Washington last August was a landmark event. The Senator also noted Azerbaijan's significant role at the geopolitical level under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. Furthermore, Daines expressed his gratitude to the President for his leadership in the normalization of relations and the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

During the conversation, the importance of the TRIPP corridor in terms of regional transport connectivity was highlighted, and an exchange of views took place regarding the strengthening of dialogue between Azerbaijan and the U.S. Senate, as well as the prospects for partnership.
