President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their family members participated in the inauguration of the Khojaly Genocide Memorial in the city of Khojaly on February 26.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev laid a wreath at the memorial. The head of state, the First Lady, and family members toured the memorial complex and met with representatives of the public from the Khojaly district.
According to the Press Service of the President, the ceremony marks a significant step in preserving the memory of the victims of the tragedy. The newly erected complex serves as a solemn tribute to the civilians who lost their lives during the massacre in 1992, ensuring that the historical truth of the event is passed down to future generations.
The Khojaly Genocide, committed by Armenian forces in February 1992, remains one of the most tragic chapters in Azerbaijan's history. Following the liberation of the city and the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over its entire territory, the establishment of this memorial in Khojaly itself carries immense symbolic weight, representing both justice and the enduring resilience of the Azerbaijani people.
