Following a formal request for legal assistance from Montenegro, Azerbaijani authorities have conducted a comprehensive DNA analysis regarding a serious crime committed in the Balkan nation. The investigation highlights the growing importance of international judicial cooperation in solving cross-border criminal cases.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan executed a legal assistance request received from the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro via EUROJUST. The request was submitted within the framework of criminal proceedings concerning a premeditated murder case that occurred on Montenegrin territory.
The request specifically sought the collection of necessary DNA samples and the execution of other procedural actions. This included obtaining biological samples from relatives of the primary suspect, Rovshan Samadov (born 1970), and Sirudin Sharifov (born 2001), who is suspected of aiding in the concealment of the crime. Furthermore, investigators were tasked with analyzing biological samples collected from the crime scene and other objects relevant to the criminal case.
The Investigative Department successfully executed the request, obtaining statements from the relevant individuals and conducting detailed DNA profiling. The gathered documents and expert analysis materials have been transmitted to the competent authorities in Montenegro in accordance with established international legal cooperation protocols.
Such cooperation is part of Azerbaijan's ongoing commitment to international law enforcement efforts. By utilizing advanced forensic capabilities, Azerbaijan assists partner nations in ensuring justice is served, reinforcing the role of the Operative Information Center-OMM and the Prosecutor General's Office in maintaining global legal standards.
