Azerbaijan assumes chairmanship of OIC Parliamentary Union

The chairmanship of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has officially passed from Indonesia to Azerbaijan.

According to the "Operative Information Center-OMM", the transfer of the chairmanship took place during the official opening ceremony of the 20th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States.

It should be noted that the session, which brings together parliamentary delegations from over 40 countries, speakers from more than 10 nations, and representatives from 10 international organizations, is focused on the theme "Promoting sustainable and inclusive economic development in OIC member states through parliamentary cooperation." More than 400 delegates are participating in the event.

Within the framework of the event, meetings will be held for the organization's General Committee, Executive Committee, Association of Secretaries General, as well as committees dedicated to political affairs and international relations, economic affairs and the environment, legal and cultural affairs, inter-civilizational and interfaith dialogue, and human rights, women, and family issues. Participants will also review and address documents on the agenda.

The session is scheduled to conclude on June 25.

Context: The OIC Parliamentary Union serves as a vital platform for fostering dialogue and cooperation among the legislative bodies of Islamic nations. Azerbaijan's assumption of the chairmanship underscores the country's growing role in international diplomacy and its commitment to strengthening ties within the Islamic world, particularly in promoting economic development and parliamentary collaboration.
