Snow falls in Shahdag as strong winds hit Baku

Rainy weather conditions continue across most regions of Azerbaijan as of 09:00 on March 27, according to the National Hydrometeorological Service. Snow has fallen in the Shahdag highlands, where the snow depth has reached 1 centimeter.

The amount of precipitation recorded across the regions is as follows:

  • Astara - 13 mm;
  • Lerik - 9 mm;
  • Jabrayil and Shahbuz - 7 mm;
  • Yardimli, Lankaran, and Beylagan - 6 mm;
  • Dashkasan, Aghdam, Bilasuvar, and Ordubad - 4 mm;
  • Tartar - 3 mm;
  • Goranboy, Imishli, Goygol, Barda, Gadabay, Naftalan, Julfa, Nakhchivan, and Sharur - 2 mm.

In several other districts, including Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, as well as parts of Garabagh and East Zangazur (Shusha, Khankendi, Khojaly, Lachin, Kalbajar, Fuzuli, Qubadli), the amount of precipitation reached 1 mm.

Currently, a north-west wind is blowing in the capital and the Absheron Peninsula, with maximum wind speeds reaching 21 meters per second. Additionally, foggy conditions have been recorded in Baku, the Absheron Peninsula, Dashkasan, Goygol, Guba, Gusar, Goychay, and Lerik. Due to the fog, visibility in these areas has been restricted to 500 meters.

The National Hydrometeorological Service of Azerbaijan regularly monitors atmospheric conditions to provide timely updates for the public and relevant state authorities. Such transitional weather patterns are common in Azerbaijan during the spring season, often characterized by fluctuating temperatures and increased precipitation across the country's diverse geographical landscape, ranging from the Greater Caucasus mountains to the subtropical south.
