China has expressed strong opposition to the US Department of Defense's decision to include several Chinese research institutions on a specialized monitoring list. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Beijing has warned that it will take necessary measures to protect the rights and interests of its organizations.

A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce condemned the move, accusing the US of expanding the concept of national security to justify discriminatory restrictions. The spokesperson stated that Washington is politicizing scientific cooperation and turning it into a tool for geopolitical leverage, which undermines global collaboration in scientific and technological innovation.

The Pentagon recently updated its list of "foreign research institutions with problematic activities," which includes various defense-related academies as well as Shanghai’s Fudan University. This development marks a further escalation in the ongoing technological and academic tensions between the two global powers, as both nations increasingly scrutinize cross-border research partnerships under the guise of national security concerns.
