Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has underscored the importance of establishing direct communication with Azerbaijan and Turkey, moving away from a long-standing reliance on third-party mediators to facilitate regional peace. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Prime Minister made these remarks during the presentation of the ruling "Civil Contract" party's pre-election program.
"Regionalization plays a key role in the formation of a balanced foreign policy, the main goal of which is to ensure Armenia's ability not only to survive but also to develop comfortably in its own environment without external support. In this sense, the further development of relations with Georgia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Turkey, and the Republic of Azerbaijan is of great importance, and the party will follow this path," Pashinyan stated. He further emphasized that the full unblocking of transport infrastructure is essential, specifically highlighting the implementation of the TRIPP project (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity), named in connection with US President Donald Trump, and the operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway as vital steps for regional stability.
Addressing the historical context of Armenia's foreign policy, Pashinyan admitted that previous strategies involving third-party mediation often proved counterproductive. "In our relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey, we always acted through third countries. When you communicate through a third party, you can never be sure that your messages are delivered correctly, as the third party has its own ideas and interests. This is why peace was not established in our region for many years," he added. The Prime Minister also reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to the "3+3" regional platform, noting that the participation of Russia in this format is crucial for the constructive transformation of bilateral ties. Furthermore, he announced that establishing diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will be a priority for the 2026-2031 period.
