Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will not attend the Victory Day parade scheduled for May 9 in Moscow.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media outlets, that the decision is linked to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia scheduled for June.
Pashinyan clarified that he had already communicated this decision to the Kremlin during his previous diplomatic engagements. "During my visit to the Russian Federation in April, I informed the Russian president that I would not be able to participate in the events on May 9 due to the election campaign," the Prime Minister noted.
Victory Day, celebrated on May 9, marks the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II and is traditionally observed with a large-scale military parade on Moscow's Red Square. While leaders from various post-Soviet states often attend the event, Pashinyan's absence comes during a period of significant political activity within Armenia. The upcoming snap parliamentary elections are considered a critical juncture for the country's internal stability and its future foreign policy orientation.
