Azerbaijan border guards detain 21 for border violations in June

In June 2026, the State Border Service of Azerbaijan detained 21 individuals for violating the state border. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this data was released as part of the State Border Service's monthly operational summary.

The report highlights that throughout June, the State Border Service successfully implemented measures to ensure the reliable protection of the state border, while intensifying efforts against smuggling, illegal migration, and the illicit drug trade.

Of the 21 individuals detained for violating the state border, 8 were citizens of Azerbaijan, 5 were from Iran, 2 from Afghanistan, and 6 from Nigeria.

In parallel, anti-illegal migration operations resulted in the detention of 8 individuals attempting to cross the border using forged date stamps, falsified passports, or documents belonging to other persons. Additionally, 25 individuals were detained for violating border regime regulations, with appropriate legal measures taken against them.

Law enforcement efforts also yielded significant results in broader criminal investigations: 330 individuals wanted by authorities were apprehended and handed over to the relevant agencies. Furthermore, border officials prevented 825 people with travel bans from leaving the country and blocked 32 individuals with entry bans from entering Azerbaijan.

Combating the illicit drug trade remained a priority, with 229 kilograms and 974 grams of narcotics, along with 9,200 psychotropic pills, seized and removed from circulation. Notably, in 6 separate instances, drones were utilized to smuggle 47 kilograms and 6 grams of narcotics, as well as 2,000 psychotropic pills, all of which were intercepted.

Anti-smuggling operations led to the seizure of contraband goods with an estimated total value of 4,830,558 manats, including pharmaceuticals, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products.
