The use of the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for political and economic pressure against the international community is unacceptable, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Ministry emphasized the strait's role as a vital artery for approximately one-fifth of the global energy supply, playing a critical role in international trade.

"We categorically reject the use of the Strait of Hormuz as a means of economic coercion or blackmail and demand a collective international response. This constitutes economic warfare and piracy that extends beyond the region, impacting the global economy as a whole," the statement read. The Ministry further noted that the UAE is closely monitoring the regional situation following a two-week ceasefire between US President Donald Trump and Iran, stressing the need for further clarification on agreement terms to ensure Iran's full commitment to the immediate cessation of all military operations in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically important chokepoints, separating the Persian Gulf from the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Given that a significant portion of the world's liquefied natural gas and oil passes through this narrow passage daily, any disruption to maritime traffic poses a severe threat to global energy security and price stability. Historically, the region has seen heightened tensions involving international naval forces and regional actors, making the current call for a unified international stance a significant move toward maintaining maritime law and commercial freedom.
