Iran's Assembly of Experts has been tasked with the responsibility of selecting the country's next Supreme Leader in accordance with the national constitution.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that official information regarding the succession process was released via the Telegram channel of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
"Currently, we are all in mourning and grief, and the tragedy is indeed heavy and great. However, the Iranian people should know that there is no uncertainty in the legal system and the constitution regarding this matter, and detailed measures have been provided for," the statement noted.
The report specifically emphasized that the election of a new leader falls directly under the jurisdiction of the Assembly of Experts, and this process is being conducted in full compliance with Article 111 of the Constitution.
The Assembly of Experts is a deliberative body of 88 theologians who are charged with appointing, supervising, and, if necessary, dismissing the Supreme Leader. Under Article 111, if the current leader is unable to perform his duties or passes away, a leadership council typically manages affairs until the Assembly selects a successor. This process is critical for maintaining the political and religious hierarchy within the Islamic Republic, ensuring a transition of power within the framework of the clerical establishment.
