The government of the Netherlands has increased its financial support for Ukraine for 2026, bringing the total to 133 million euros. The decision reflects the kingdom's ongoing commitment to bolstering Kyiv's resilience amid the continuing conflict.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the "NL Times" portal released this information, citing Aukje de Vries, the State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation. The increase in funding is primarily driven by the Dutch government's decision to allocate an additional 23 million euros specifically to support Ukraine's energy sector.
According to official sources, these funds are planned to be directed toward several critical areas:
- Ensuring the supply of natural gas from abroad;
- Restoring energy infrastructure damaged as a result of the war;
- Purchasing essential Dutch-made equipment, including generators and cables.
The report notes that the Netherlands provides an average of 3.5 billion euros in aid to Ukraine annually. Notably, approximately 2 billion euros of the funds originally earmarked for Kyiv in the 2026 budget have already been utilized in 2025 to meet urgent needs. Since 2022, the total amount of Dutch assistance for Ukraine's military and humanitarian requirements has surpassed 13.6 billion euros.
This financial package comes at a time of heightened international diplomatic activity. In the United States, US President Donald Trump has emphasized the importance of burden-sharing among NATO allies regarding security expenditures. The Netherlands' consistent support aligns with broader European efforts to stabilize the regional energy grid and provide sustainable long-term assistance to Kyiv.
