The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that an oil tanker, carrying three Japanese crew members, has safely navigated the Strait of Hormuz and departed the Persian Gulf.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Reuters, that the vessel, a crude oil carrier sailing under the Liberian flag and owned by the Japanese company Kyoei Tanker, is now en route to Japan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the vessel's transit was coordinated with the Iranian side, a move viewed as a significant step toward ensuring secure maritime shipping in the region. According to the Japanese government, all vessels associated with Japan that had Japanese nationals on board have now successfully departed the Persian Gulf.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi indicated that the government will continue its diplomatic efforts to ensure the free and safe passage of such vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, following a memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran. However, she noted that 37 other Japan-linked vessels are still awaiting authorization to transit the strategic waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a vital artery for global energy supplies. Approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes through this narrow passage, making it a focal point for international diplomacy and regional security concerns. Ensuring the safety of commercial shipping in these waters remains a top priority for nations dependent on energy imports, such as Japan.
