US officials have expressed uncertainty regarding the smooth proceedings of the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this assessment was shared by CNN, citing informed sources.
The tension is reportedly driven by a strained political atmosphere and dissatisfaction from US President Donald Trump regarding the conduct of his allies. According to the reports, European leaders are hoping to conclude the summit without significant confrontation. To mitigate potential friction, they are planning to announce new defense commitments aimed at addressing President Trump's concerns.
In a statement released in late June, US President Donald Trump indicated that his participation in the NATO summit is primarily a gesture of respect toward Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. "If the summit were not being hosted by President Erdogan in Turkey, I probably would not attend," Trump noted.
The NATO summit is scheduled to take place on July 7–8 in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Such summits serve as critical platforms for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to address collective security challenges, coordinate defense strategies among member states, and reaffirm the alliance's commitment to regional and global stability.
