Myanmar's new president has been announced: The Electoral College, consisting of representatives from the Union Assembly of Myanmar (parliament), has elected Min Aung Hlaing as the head of state.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Xinhua news agency released information regarding the election results.

Min Aung Hlaing secured 429 votes out of 584 deputies. He was one of three candidates nominated for the post of head of state, with the other two candidates being the country's vice presidents.

It should be noted that Min Aung Hlaing has led the Myanmar armed forces since 2011 and has resigned from his position as commander-in-chief in connection with his transition to the presidency.

The election of a new president marks a significant shift in Myanmar's political landscape, which has been characterized by complex civil-military relations over the past decade. As the country navigates this transition, the international community remains focused on the stability of the Southeast Asian nation and its future governance structures. The Union Assembly, which serves as the bicameral legislature, plays a central role in the constitutional process of selecting the executive leadership in Myanmar.
