The United States Armed Forces have successfully neutralized several Iranian drones in the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington identified as preparing to target commercial shipping vessels in the region.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the operation was confirmed by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees military operations in the Middle East.
"Iran launched several attack drones intended to strike commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. US forces successfully engaged and destroyed all drones in recent hours, and maritime traffic through the strait continues without obstruction," the official statement read. CENTCOM further emphasized that the vital international trade corridor remains open for global shipping.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a primary route for a significant portion of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas exports. Given its strategic importance, any military escalation in the area frequently triggers international concern regarding global energy security and supply chain stability. The US maintains a persistent naval presence in the region to ensure freedom of navigation and to deter threats against commercial maritime traffic.
