The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has adopted amendments to the law "On Information, Informatization, and Protection of Information" in its final reading during today's plenary session.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the new legislation introduces mechanisms to restrict access to websites that disseminate prohibited content.
Under the updated regulations, access to internet information resources or specific sections thereof will be temporarily restricted based on a decision by the relevant executive authority. This measure applies to content involving the production or usage methods of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors, as well as locations for the illegal acquisition or cultivation of drug-containing plants. Furthermore, restrictions will be imposed on content containing defamation or slander, information violating the privacy of individuals, and false information that poses a threat to human life and health, public safety, or the operational integrity of critical infrastructure, including financial, transport, communication, industrial, and energy sectors.
The legislative update is part of the ongoing efforts by the Azerbaijani government to strengthen cybersecurity and protect the digital information space from harmful and illegal content that could lead to public disorder or significant property damage.
