New regulations are set to be introduced in Azerbaijan regarding the restriction of specific types of information published on websites. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, these measures are proposed as amendments to the Law "On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information."
The draft legislation was discussed during a joint session of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) committees on Legal Policy and State Building and on Labor and Social Policy. The proposed changes aim to enhance the regulatory framework governing the activities of media outlets and internet resources operating within the country.
Under the new provisions, access to internet information resources or specific sections thereof may be temporarily restricted by a decision of the relevant executive authority. This applies to content involving the production or use of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and their precursors, as well as information on the cultivation of drug-containing plants. Furthermore, the restrictions cover content containing defamation, insults, violations of personal privacy, or false information that threatens public safety, the operation of critical infrastructure, or the health and life of citizens. These legislative steps are part of ongoing efforts in Azerbaijan to ensure a secure and responsible digital information environment.
