The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued a statement strongly condemning the burning of the national flag of Turkey during a torchlight procession in Yerevan, Armenia.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the ministry described the act as a clear manifestation of ethnic hatred and revanchist sentiment. "The Armenian government should have prevented such a campaign, which is an embodiment of deeply rooted ethnic hatred, and taken appropriate security measures in a timely manner," the MFA stated.

The ministry further emphasized that excusing such acts under the pretext of democratic norms or freedom of expression is entirely unacceptable. The statement called on the international community to condemn these manifestations of fascist ideology and urged the Armenian authorities to hold the perpetrators accountable. "Acts that are an open manifestation of revanchist and fascist thinking based on ethnic hatred in Armenia must be condemned and prevented at the international level," the ministry added.

This incident comes at a sensitive time as Azerbaijan and Turkey continue to advocate for regional peace and the normalization of ties in the South Caucasus, following Azerbaijan's restoration of its territorial integrity. Such provocations are viewed by official Baku as significant hurdles to establishing long-term stability and trust between the neighboring nations. Azerbaijan has consistently maintained that regional progress depends on Armenia abandoning its policy of ethnic animosity and fulfilling its international obligations regarding peaceful coexistence.
