On April 10, the next round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany was held in Baku.
The Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Operative Information Center-OMM that the Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, while the German delegation was headed by Niklas Wagner, the Commissioner for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia at the German Federal Foreign Office.
During the consultations, the current state of political relations and bilateral cooperation was reviewed. Both sides emphasized the importance of mutual visits and meetings within the framework of international events to maintain a continuous political dialogue. Furthermore, the current status and development prospects of cooperation in the economic, energy, transport, and humanitarian fields were discussed. Information was provided on strategic energy and transport projects implemented through the initiative and participation of Azerbaijan. The parties also exchanged views on expanding the legal-contractual framework and focused on interaction within international platforms and mutual support for candidacies in various international organizations.
The delegations held detailed discussions regarding the current regional situation, the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, and the steps taken toward ensuring sustainable peace. The German side was briefed on the large-scale restoration, reconstruction, and demining activities being carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. Additionally, an exchange of views took place on international issues of mutual interest.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Germany have historically been characterized by strong economic ties, with Germany being one of Azerbaijan's primary trading partners within the European Union. These consultations serve as a vital mechanism for aligning positions on regional security and energy diversification, particularly as Azerbaijan continues to play a pivotal role in Europe's energy security through the Southern Gas Corridor. The meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering stability in the South Caucasus and enhancing bilateral institutional cooperation.
