Billionaire Elon Musk has announced that his neurotechnology company, Neuralink, has successfully implanted brain chips in 21 individuals to date.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media, that the company has achieved significant results during nearly two years of ongoing clinical trials.
According to the company's statement, 21 volunteers have been integrated into the project as Neuralink continues to expand its research on the human brain. It was emphasized that all of these participants have already received the brain-computer interface (BCI) implants. The company noted that the testing process has surpassed the two-year mark, recording substantial progress in device functionality and user safety.
Elon Musk first publicly disclosed the successful implantation of a brain chip in a human subject in January 2024. The Neuralink implant, known as "Telepathy," is designed to allow individuals with paralysis to control external devices, such as computers and smartphones, using only their thoughts. This technology aims to restore autonomy to those with limited physical mobility by bridging the gap between the human brain and digital interfaces.
Neuralink, founded by Musk in 2016, is at the forefront of developing ultra-high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers. The project has garnered international attention for its potential to treat neurological conditions such as ALS, Parkinson's disease, and spinal cord injuries. As the clinical trials progress, the company seeks to refine the surgical robot used for implantation and ensure the long-term stability of the electrodes within the brain tissue.
