Explosions have occurred in the vicinity of the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron is staying during his official visit to Syria.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing sources within security services, the Reuters news agency reported on the incident.
Reports indicate that several explosions were heard in the center of Damascus, near the hotel where the French leader is residing. Smoke was observed rising from the area following the incident. Security forces were immediately deployed to the site, surrounding roads were closed, and additional protective measures were implemented.
The administration of President Macron issued a statement regarding the incident, noting that the French President did not hear the explosions and was unaffected by the event while en route to a meeting with Syrian leader Ahmad al-Sharaa.
It should be noted that Emmanuel Macron is the first leader of a European Union member state to visit Syria following the change of government that took place in the country in December 2024. This visit marks a significant diplomatic development in the region's post-conflict stabilization efforts.
