A collection of personal notes belonging to Mahatma Gandhi, the iconic leader of the Indian independence movement, has been sold for a record-breaking sum at an auction held in Mumbai, India.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the collection, which comprises over 600 handwritten messages, was purchased for $1.69 million. These historical documents are said to reflect Gandhi's profound thoughts on truth, non-violent resistance, and self-discipline.

The auction house Saffronart, which organized the sale, stated that this transaction marks the highest amount ever paid for documents related to Indian history. While the identity of the buyer has not been disclosed, it has been confirmed that these historically significant documents will remain within India.

Mahatma Gandhi, the founder of the "Satyagraha" movement, which advocated for non-violence and social justice, remains a global symbol of peace. Decades after his passing, his philosophy continues to serve as a vital source of inspiration for human rights activists and advocates of civil liberties worldwide, underscoring the enduring legacy of his written works.
