Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has declared that the situation along the Belarus-Ukraine border has reached an unprecedented level of tension, necessitating an immediate increase in security measures.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Lukashenko addressed these concerns in a recent statement to the RIA Novosti news agency. He emphasized that the current geopolitical climate requires a robust defensive posture along the country's southern frontier.

“The question posed to military officials is whether we must protect the southern border with heightened security. The answer is yes. The people support us so that we can ensure their safety,” Lukashenko stated, describing the southern border as being in a state of high volatility, unlike any period in the past.

The Belarusian leader's remarks follow previous allegations regarding a drone incident in the Bryansk region, where he claimed a vehicle transporting Belarusian children was targeted by a drone of Ukrainian origin. These developments occur against the backdrop of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has significantly altered the security architecture of Eastern Europe. Belarus, a close ally of Russia, has frequently expressed concerns regarding the spillover effects of the war, leading to periodic military exercises and increased border patrols to prevent potential incursions or destabilization attempts.
