The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that three oil tankers attempted to navigate through a mined route in the Strait of Hormuz, raising regional security concerns.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the IRGC Navy issued a statement, numbered 43, claiming that the tankers were acting under the "instigation of the US military" when they attempted to utilize the hazardous maritime path. The incident resulted in a significant explosion and fire on one of the vessels, while the other two tankers immediately retreated from the area. Official reports regarding the status of the crew members and the extent of the damage to the vessels have not yet been released.
The IRGC emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz remains under its full control, declaring that the waterway will remain closed to vessel traffic as long as what it termed "US provocations" continue. The organization stated that no tanker will be permitted to enter or exit the strait without coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Furthermore, the statement alleged that the United States is endangering commercial shipping and jeopardizing global energy security. Iranian officials have warned that punitive operations may be conducted in response to the alleged violation.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime chokepoint, serving as a vital artery for global oil supplies. Approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes through this narrow passage, making any disruption in the area a significant concern for international energy markets and global economic stability.
