Internet crisis in Iran has triggered a new wave of migration

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that persistent disruptions in international internet access have been observed in Iran over the past 65 days, leading to significant restrictions on the flow of information.

According to the report, the resulting crisis has turned access to information resources into an indicator of social and economic inequality. This situation has fostered a new trend of migration within the country, as professionals seek stable connectivity to maintain their livelihoods.

It was noted that cases of short-term and urgent migration from Iran to foreign countries, particularly to Armenia and Turkey, have increased. Business owners and specialists who operate in dependence on global markets are being forced to temporarily leave the country to continue their work and protect their incomes.

This digital instability comes amid broader economic challenges in the region. Internet shutdowns and bandwidth throttling are frequently cited by international observers as major hurdles for the tech sector and digital entrepreneurship. For many Iranian startups and freelance specialists, the inability to access global platforms results in immediate financial losses, making relocation to neighboring hubs like Istanbul or Yerevan a necessary strategic move for business continuity.
