Unstable weather conditions, including heavy rain and hail, affected several regions of Azerbaijan on May 8. According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, the village of Kohneqishlaq in the Agstafa district experienced a hailstorm, while other parts of the country saw varying levels of intense precipitation and lightning.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reported that as of 10:00 AM on May 9, rainfall was most significant in Goychay at 15 mm, followed by Sheki and Khaltan with 10 mm. High-altitude areas, including Shahdag, Khinalig, and Griz in the Quba district, recorded snowfall during the period. Other affected areas included Gabala, Beylagan, Oguz, and Ismayilli, where rainfall ranged from 7 to 9 mm, while minor precipitation was noted in Ganja, Agstafa, and Jabrayil.
Azerbaijan's western and northern regions are frequently subject to volatile weather patterns during the spring months, which can significantly impact local agricultural sectors. The National Hydrometeorological Service regularly monitors these atmospheric changes to provide timely alerts to the public and relevant state agencies, ensuring preparedness for potential natural phenomena such as flash floods or crop-damaging hail in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
