North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has personally operated a new 600 mm multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) during a major military equipment handover ceremony.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), that the event marked the delivery of 50 new large-caliber rocket systems to the country's military and party structures.
According to the report, Kim Jong Un was seen personally driving the heavy rocket launcher across the square of the April 25 House of Culture. Footage released by the state news agency shows the leader inspecting the lined-up military hardware and greeting citizens gathered for the occasion. The new 600 mm MLRS is reportedly equipped with advanced artificial intelligence elements, enhancing its targeting and operational capabilities. It was further noted that additional units were produced over the last two months as a special contribution to the party congress.
The development of the 600 mm MLRS, often referred to by North Korea as a "super-large" rocket launcher, represents a significant component of Pyongyang's tactical nuclear delivery strategy. These systems are designed to bridge the gap between traditional artillery and short-range ballistic missiles, capable of reaching targets across the Korean Peninsula. The integration of artificial intelligence into such platforms suggests an ongoing effort to modernize the nation's conventional and strategic arsenal amid heightened regional tensions.
