North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has unveiled dozens of new rocket launchers designed for a "strategic mission" ahead of a rare party congress, signaling a further escalation in the country's military capabilities.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Bloomberg, that the North Korean arms industry presented 50 units of 600mm multiple rocket launcher systems (MRLS) to the 9th Congress of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea.
"This is a focused strike weapon, the most powerful in the world. While it is a multiple rocket launcher system, it is virtually indistinguishable from a high-precision ballistic missile in terms of its accuracy and power," the North Korean leader stated during the presentation.
The event is expected to last several days, during which a new five-year economic plan will be developed and potential leadership changes may be announced. The introduction of these high-caliber systems underscores Pyongyang's commitment to modernizing its tactical nuclear delivery platforms amid ongoing regional tensions.
The 600mm MRLS, often referred to by international analysts as the KN-25, represents a significant shift in North Korea's artillery doctrine. Unlike traditional artillery, these systems are designed to reach targets across the Korean Peninsula with high precision, blurring the line between conventional rocket fire and short-range ballistic missiles. This military display comes at a time of heightened geopolitical scrutiny as global powers, including US President Donald Trump, monitor the security situation in East Asia.
