The Washington administration has expressed regret over the Vatican's decision to decline participation in the Peace Council established to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that these remarks were made by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a briefing.
"I think it is very regrettable. Of course, the administration wants everyone invited to the Peace Council to participate. This is a legitimate organization consisting of dozens of countries. And we believe this decision is unfortunate. US President Donald Trump has a very bold and ambitious plan and vision for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip," she stated while commenting on the Holy See's decision.
Leavitt further emphasized that there is no need to politicize issues related to the establishment and maintenance of peace in the region. The decision of the Holy See was previously announced by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
The Gaza Peace Council is a multilateral initiative aimed at coordinating international efforts for humanitarian aid, regional stability, and the long-term reconstruction of infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. The council seeks to bring together global religious and political leaders to foster a sustainable diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict. The refusal of the Vatican, which traditionally plays a significant role in international mediation and humanitarian advocacy, marks a notable challenge to the administration's efforts to build a broad-based international coalition for its Middle East peace strategy.
