Baku's prosecution authorities review 2025 performance in crime fighting and investigative activities

An extensive operational meeting has been held in Baku under the chairmanship of Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev to review the work carried out by the capital's prosecution authorities in 2025 regarding the fight against crime, investigative activities, and prosecutorial supervision.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, opening the meeting, Kamran Aliyev emphasized that the 5th anniversary of the historic Victory achieved under the leadership of President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev was celebrated at a high level across the country. He noted that 2025, declared the "Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty," has gone down in history as a year of significant achievements for the state and people of Azerbaijan.

The Prosecutor General specifically highlighted the initialing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia at the White House in Washington, D.C., on August 8, 2025, as one of the most important political achievements following the victory in the Patriotic War. It was also noted that as a result of the attention shown by President Ilham Aliyev to the prosecution authorities, new administrative buildings for the Pirallahi, Nasimi, and Binagadi district prosecutor's offices, as well as a new wing for the Baku City Prosecutor's Office, were commissioned during the reporting year.

Baku City Prosecutor Elshan Abbasov reported that in 2025, a total of 14,104 crimes were registered by the prosecution and internal affairs bodies in Baku, with a detection rate of 93.4 percent. Through coordinated measures, all 39 cases of intentional homicide and 19 cases of attempted murder were solved, along with several cold cases from previous years. The meeting also addressed disciplinary measures, noting that six employees were held accountable, including two dismissed from the prosecution authorities.

The Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan serves as a centralized unified body based on subordination to the Prosecutor General. Its primary functions include investigating criminal acts, supervising the execution of laws in the activities of inquiry and operational-search bodies, and representing the state in criminal cases before the courts. Under the ongoing judicial-legal reforms initiated by President Ilham Aliyev, the prosecution service has undergone significant modernization to ensure transparency and the protection of human rights in Azerbaijan.
