Authorities in the Surakhani district of Baku have reported a criminal case involving the theft of 29,000 manats in cash and gold jewelry valued at 1,000 manats from a private residence.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, police investigations revealed that the theft was committed by the 25-year-old daughter of the homeowner.

In her statement to law enforcement, the suspect explained that she had been targeted by an individual she met on social media. The perpetrator threatened to release compromising information about her online, coercing her into providing the stolen funds and valuables to meet his demands.

Following an investigation, the suspect identified as O. Bagirov was apprehended by police officers. A criminal case has been initiated, and investigations are currently ongoing.

Extortion via social media platforms remains a significant concern for law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Internal Affairs frequently urges citizens to exercise caution when interacting with strangers online and to report any threats or blackmail attempts to the police immediately to prevent further victimization.
